Can you believe we've been married 13+ years and I've never had to cook a turkey? That was until yesterday. For years I've found comfort creating the green bean casserole and homemade rolls (Kent's favorites), but this year the need for an extra local oven brought the turkey to the Kern house. I had the perfect 19 lb turkey and a helpful husband but somewhere between almost blowing up the microwave, backing up the garbage disposal, and the discovery that removal of a neck from the packaging was required-- the laughter began. Kent was gracious to take care of the neck and giblets for me though I had to convince them the giblets really were in there somewhere. I didn't think I'd be grossed out by the realness of the bird until I actually had to work with it raw--yuck! Why do we get the neck? I don't want the neck! Kent joked that I wouldn't have made a very good pilgrim; I dare say he's right!
In the end turkey and stuffing turned out just great thanks to Martha Stewart and her cheesecloth recipe. I do plan to cook a turkey again as long as my side-kick pilgrim husband will continue to support my poultry anatomy avoidance issues.

Is it bad to say, "I'm glad it was you and not me?!" It sure looks scrumptuous from the picture!!
